So this summer has been unusually busy in the travel department. I wrote earlier about what I am learning about how easy it is to travel following a Keto lifestyle once I made the decision to make that change. As I have gotten better at packing my goodie snack bag for any trip, (i.e., nuts, dried olives, coconut chips, pork rinds, hard-boiled eggs and of course Good Fat Bars), I have also gotten better at having the Keto conversation with my friends and travel mates that I am spending extra time with. I know that I have gotten bolder in my conversation the more I experience so many positive outcomes from my new eating plan. I even gave some Good Fat Bars to a gentleman I was sitting next to on the airplane! Me, the person who never talks to anyone while traveling. He wanted to know more, and I was happy to share.
I want my friends and family to know what is possible when they stop eating sugar! Plus, I am finding the thrill of the adventure to be well adventurous! I’ve met so many new people and learned of many new food options as I have been open to new food experiences. I’m not talking about silly little tweaks – I’m talking about having food that is so delicious I want to cry from pure joy! I will also say that people who feel amazing are generally doing some very interesting things, which continues to blow my world wide open. Something to consider……
It is also very important to point out that Keto is not for everyone. I get that AND It is important to respect the choices that each of us makes for ourselves. The struggle for me comes when I see people I love with significant extra weight and/or physical challenges that could be mitigated with some dietary changes. So my ask is not that you become a raving Keto fan, (although raving fans are very welcome), it’s more of an ask that you be open to considering how to be your very best self. No one wants to be lectured or shamed and yet I am often reminded of how we as humans say we want something different, and yet aren’t willing to make the changes that would allow those changes. Regardless, I promise to be respectful of your right to choose.
As you reach for that next soda, French fry, or a scoop of ice cream, just consider what might be possible with a different choice, i.e. a Kombucha, or full-fat plain yogurt mixed with almond butter, or even an Epic pork rind with guacamole. More energy? No belly? A clearer mind? Another something to consider.
Next blog we will talk about the layperson’s (i.e. people like me) understanding about insulin. While a deep understanding of this topic has had me baffled for years, I am starting to get the role it plays in my body and why all the fuss.
Until next time – create an amazing day!
