Eating good protein is critical to the health of our bones, organs, muscles, arteries, veins, skin, hair, and fingernails.
We primarily talk about the health benefits of good fat. Another, critical macro to our health is a good balance of quality protein.
Technically speaking, our heart, brain, liver, kidneys, and lungs are made of proteins.
Like Good fat, protein also helps slow down the digestion of carbs which helps stabilize blood sugar levels. Eating quality proteins promotes longevity while improving your mood!
Proteins help carry the oxygen that reddens our blood. In the form of enzymes, proteins digest our food, synthesize essential substances, and break down waste products for elimination.
When fat and carbohydrates are insufficient, proteins produce the energy we need for life. Protein is needed to “carry” fat and cholesterol throughout the body and supports brain function.
For us in the States, this is Memorial Day weekend, a holiday where we remember the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
One of the ways we celebrate their lives and sacrifice is to remember with gratitude and celebrate the life we have is grilling amazing food.
Whether your protein love is burgers, steaks, chicken, brats, fish, vegetables, tofu, or vegan burgers, make sure you spend some time grilling and remembering this weekend.
There is nothing like delicious grilled food and time outdoors, collecting your vitamin D from the sun for your mental and physical health.
Here are some good proteins that taste delicious grilled:
- Salmon (wild caught is best)
- Seafood
- Burgers and Steaks (grass-fed is best)
- Organic Chicken
- Lamb
- Liver (Chicken or Beef) – if you like liver (:
- Veggie shish kabob with tofu and your favorite vegetables.
- Brats
If possible, eat your protein first. There’s a good chance you will eat less of the other party foods we love like potato chips and sugary desserts.
Enjoy your time with friends, family, and yourself this weekend.
Happy Grilling.
