Information regarding how ketosis works to purge the body of precancerous tissue.
In the book Cancer as a Metabolic Disease by Thomas Seyfried, on page 383, he has a paragraph that says, “The length of therapeutic fasting, or administration of the ketogenic diet with restrictions for cancer prevention could vary from one person to the next. In general, a seven-day water-only fast, done once per year, would be sufficient for the body to consume dysplastic or precancerous tissue. It usually requires two to three days for the blood glucose to reach the therapeutic lower levels and for ketones to raise up to therapeutic levels.” Essentially, a seven day fast means you’re in ketosis for at least three days, maybe four.
Reaching a Metabolic State
Seyfried continues, “Once the body reaches this metabolic state, autophagy and autolytic cannibalism will begin purging the body of neoplastic tissue.” Meaning, the body picks proteins that it wants to eliminate. The proteins it eliminates are dysplastic and precancerous tissue: tumors, cancerous cells, fibroids, cysts—things that aren’t supposed to be there. Basically, the body is selective about what it chooses to tear down: it’ll tear down the pathological stuff and it’ll spare the healthy organs.
More from the book: “For those individuals incapable of conducting longer fasts, several shorter fasts, like two to three days, done two to three times per year should be also effective in preventing cancer. A ketogenic diet consumed for one week should also be an effective cancer prevention strategy as long as the blood glucose and ketones are maintained within the therapeutic ranges.”
Ways to Track Ketones
As you can see, there are a number of options. In any case, I suggest using the Keto-mojo to measure your blood, sugar, and ketones.
If you’re pretty healthy and your goal is simply to stay healthy, get into ketosis at least four times a year. However, if you’re sick, if you have a chronic disease, then you might need to get into ketosis for five out of seven days of every week. If you have cancer, maybe it needs to be every day for three months.
Your method for ketosis and fasting should be catered to your state of health, so that you can improve your health and do it well and with ease.
