Why do we use raw cacao butter in our Good Fat Bars?
Cacao is often referred to as being ‘the food of the gods’, providing us with a long list of health boosting benefits. Once we learned about the amazing properties contained within this single ingredient, we knew we needed to build our high quality, clean snack using cacao butter.
Raw cacao butter is one of the main ingredients used in making chocolate, something that most of us are familiar with. Raise your hand if you ran out and indulged in a decadent piece of dark chocolate upon learning that “dark chocolate is good for you”. Us too. The levels of antioxidants in cacao are among one of the highest on the planet, coming in above red wine green tea, and other foods labeled we’ve come to know as being “super foods”[1]. Antioxidants aide our bodies in fighting off disease and neutralizing toxins; dark chocolate is deemed as being good because of cacao (and its lower sugar content than milk chocolate).
In order to create a Good Fat Bar, we needed a “good fat”; cacao butter fit that bill. For each 13 gram serving, cacao butter has 13 grams of fat and zero grams of protein or carbohydrates. It is a plant based saturated fat, and saturated fats retain their chemical composition and nutrient value better during cooking processes than more delicate fat sources such as poly or monounsaturated fats[2]. Saturated fats are also less likely to spoil, helping to preserve those antioxidants we mentioned.
When we added up all of cacao butter’s benefits, we confirmed its reputation as being ‘the food of the gods’.
The velvety texture, slight chocolate aroma coupled with stability and nutritional integrity won us over. Organic, raw cacao butter is the foundation of our Good Fat Bars!
